Hello all, A note from Rob Dix “Someone left a show lead at the Association Ch Show. Rob and Chris Dix have got the lead and will have it at LKA or can be contacted on 020 8397 2432”. A note from Tom Mather “UK Toydog Society Championship Show schedule can be downloaded from the dog.biz website and will be available at LKA and Manchester. Alternatively I would be pleased to post a copy if anyone needs one. The Show on March 31st marks our fortieth anniversary as the very first UK Toydog Show took place in March 1972; as we cancelled a show in the year of the foot and mouth outbreak this show is also our 40th show! The cover of the schedule may come as a bit of a surprise to those of you who have seen our schedules and catalogues over the past 10 years as we have dispensed with the familiar cover that Deirdre Ashdown designed for us. Rest assured that the 2012 catalogue and prize cards will feature a brand new drawing that we have commissioned from Deirdre and it really is very special. We have not increased entry fees but in an effort to contain our costs, the Society will not be employing Security Contractors to check removal passes at the forthcoming show therefore passes will not be issued and exhibitors are reminded that the safety of their dogs is their sole responsibility. Exhibitors sending postal entries and ordering a pre-paid catalogue will receive a catalogue voucher through the post. No other acknowledgement of entry will be sent to exhibitors. If exhibitors require confirmation that their entry has been received then they need to send a stamped addressed postcard with their entry. Once again we are running a five class Limited Obedience Show in conjunction with the Championship Show. The talented Toydogs who have participated in these classes have proved to everyone that the Toy breeds can have brains as well as beauty and they truly are “Fit for Function”. The obedience judges are chosen specifically for their sympathetic approach and we would urge everyone to think about having a go at these classes. For the first time in 2012 we are scheduling an Any Variety Good Citizen Dog Scheme Class and this will be judged by Michael Gadsby. The Kennel Club have kindly donated £90 prize money for this class and it is open to all Toydogs that have received the GC Bronze Award or above. Geoffrey Davies will now be judging King Charles Spaniels in place of the late Mrs S Waters and Best in Show will be judged by one of our Vice Presidents, Mr Alan Bendelow. We look forward to welcoming you all to the show. Tom Mather. Tel: 0151 486 3570 or email uktoydog@btinternet.com” I recently received my Kennel Gazette in the post. We had a few judges; Pam Healy - Southern Counties, Betty Flavell – Leeds, Mrs PJ Eddleston - City of Birmingham, Ian Willey - Driffield, George Farmer – SouthWales. Sarah Maddason informs me the only championship show that KCS’s have CC’s at and we do not know the judge yet in Richmond. I also recently received my Breed Record Supplement. We had 37 KCS registered from 11 litters; Dogs:- 8 B&T, 0 Ruby, 6 Blen and 4 Tri. Girls:- 6 B&T, 1 Ruby, 7 Blen and 5 Tri. At third quarter last year 173 puppies were registered at third quarter this year only 128. Is this a sign of the times?? That is it for this week; please keep all your news coming. Hello
all,
I had
an email from Sarah Maddison with a report on Shealagh funeral
yesterday.
“Hi
Mea,
The
service at the crematorium was full of people, relatives and friends
of Shealagh and Bill and lots of KCS and Cavalier people I know there
were about 140 dog people expected and with others there must have
been over 200 people attended. Lorraine paid a tribute to Shealagh
mentioning various people who had helped Shealagh and people who had
done well with dogs Shealagh had breed, there was some lovely floral
tributes including one which was of a Blenheim KCS ( it looked more
Charlie than Cavalier although it was heavily marked like her
Cavaliers). There were friends from the USA and Germany as well as
friends from all parts of the UK. The order of service had a picture
of Shealagh with one of her Cavaliers on the front, inside was a list
of the tunes that were being played and at the top of page were
cavalier pictures and at the bottom 4 KCS pictures and on the back a
picture of Shealagh and Bill and a small one of her with a dog on her
knee. There was a lovely buffet with tea and coffee provided at a
local hotel. There were representatives of all the British KCS clubs
there Di Fry and several others flew up from Bristol, some came up
by train and most drove up meeting up to travel with others. John
Castle was there somehow he did not think Bill would know him. Sarah”
Thank
you Sarah for the feedback for those of us that could not make it, I
was madly trying to work and complete hospital runs myself to my
sister that has had a major setback fighting the same issue as
Shealagh.
The
family of Shealagh Waters have requested that "flowers from family
only be sent to the Crematorium" but as Shealagh loved flowers, if
anyone else would like to send flowers these can be sent to the house.
Mill Farm, Chopwell, Newcastle upon Tyne NE17 7JU or
instead of flowers, a donation in Shealagh memory, made to “THE MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE” and sent to Watson’s. Funeral Directors Ltd. 282, Old Durham Rd. Gateshead. NE8 4BP.
Last
weekend I had an afternoon out with my young Charlie babies at the
WofE CKCS puppy party. In the morning Lee Cox (Vanatonia) gave a talk
on dog showing, which was really interesting. In the discussions
after the talk one CKCS lady was getting quite irate that CKCS have to
do all these tests now to meet KC requirements and KCS don’t have to
do a thing. However as Lee had mentioned in his talk he completes
quite a few tests on his dogs that do not have to be complete to cover
himself when selling puppies. Lee also insists the new owners sign
contracts and sign to agree they have seen, or have copies of the
papers related to the tests and as a responsible breeder he has done
all he can do to breed from healthy stock. I also pointed out to this
lady that many KCS breeders do the tests even though they are not
required by the KC, I included but things do happen as puppies grow
up, issues can crop up out of the blue that you have never seen before
you just have to be responsible and do the best you can. Well Done
WofE CKCS Club it was a most enjoyable time with lots of gifts for the
puppies in the puppy match. I know the club also did heart and eye
testing on the day.
That
is it for this week please keep all your news coming.

Hello all,
We have just had a very sad week in the KCS World with the loss of Shealagh Waters so today I totally dedicate my column to her A eulogy for Shealagh Waters from Diane Fry (Amantra) "I knew Shealagh since the early 80's when I made up my first KCS Champion Only Agnes in 1982 and she made up her first Champion, Maplehurst Romeo in 1982. She was a lovely friend and although we were in competition we acknowledged each other’s quality dogs, exchanging many CC's whilst judging. I also remember her in the early days with her Cavaliers and again awarded her many CC's. She has worked very hard for both breeds and this has shown over the years. We have judged together overseas and I especially remember with laughter our stay in Finland at their Cavalier Club show in the early 90's when the snow was deep on the ground. She was a generous hostess and nothing was too much trouble if you were invited to stay at Mill Farm. She will be sadly missed by me and daughter Tracy and my heartfelt condolences go not only to Bill and family, but also to Tanya who was a constant companion." Joyce Robins (Maplehurst) - Shealagh our first meeting “It was at UK Toy Dog championship show and as usual I was excited to be going to the show. I had just bred my first litter of Charlie’s and could not wait to show them off. They were Maplehurst Sebastian (Tri Dog) and Maplehurst Sebastienne (Blenheim Girl). Someone I know wanted the Blenheim bitch to take back to Ireland, he had planned to travel back straight after the show. We talked about the puppy and after some consideration, to my surprise, he decided that perhaps 'she was a little on the big side' and declined from having her!!! I suddenly heard a voice say, 'can I please have her, she is lovely, and she is a Blenheim' it was Shealagh! We had never met before but became friends instantly and Sebastienne became her foundation bitch. That was the beginning of our long and lasting friendship, which never wavered over the past 35 years. I have some wonderful memories of our visits to Chopwell and how she went from strength to strength in the breed, subsequently getting right to the top, and above all her determination, love and devotion, for her beloved KCS. I am going to miss her very much - “Bless you Shealagh!" NB I felt my young Irish friend (sorry cannot remember his name) know Shealagh, as they both had CKCS at the time, one thing for curtain when we saw him at championship shows he always admitted to having made a big mistake” I would like to say thank you to both Joyce and Di for putting these comments together for us I know how difficult to was. I first went to I have known Shealagh for about 25 years but first went to Chopwell about 10 years ago with my friend Peter Hill to mate a CKCS to Maibee Montrose. (Stopping on the way to hug the Angel of the North) Shealagh and Bill were always so welcoming. Although we were mating my Cavalier I spent most of my time with the Charlie’s in the kitchen it was wonderful. The biggest thing I will remember about Shealagh is her warmth and her forgiveness, she could have a run in with you but once she had said her peace it was all done and dusted and off you would go as normal, never holding a grudge. My heart goes out to Bill, Wendy Tanya and the grandchildren I will be thinking of you all. Shealagh we will all miss you very deeply take care up there and look after all those wonderful 4 legged friends that got there before you. Mea Kendall 07973539478
Hello all,
Today I have had my Kennel Club Gazette and what interesting reading it makes, with an SGM called for the end of November regarding the redevelopment of Clarges Street, the restructure of the Kennel Club as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Kennel Club also reminding breeds that from 2012 you can only have 4 litters from a bitch.
Crufts 2012 Schedules will not be posted out this year unless requested. This is due to the increase in online entries. Anyone who would prefer to receive a printed schedule can order one by post you have to send a prepaid envelope to the Kennel Club. I wonder if our entry fees will go down showing us the postage and printing cost savings!!
A few judges announced for next year, Frank Kane is judging us at Paignton and District and Brenda Essex at the Welsh Kennel Club.
Some notes and reminders from the Northern King Charles Spaniel Club. Anyone wishing to put an advert in the Year Book please send all information to Margaret Mellows by the end of November. The costs are £30 per page and this year’s book is a proper bound book not like normal with the plastic binders (I am quite excited to see the new format). All of Margaret’s contact information can be found on our website. If you are on the Northern judges B list and have any update information please forward it to Gill Smith by the end of the year. People tend to forget to inform the clubs when they have passed seminars or updated their numbers so please have a review and forward info on. The Northern are running a breed specific seminar on Saturday 25th Febuary, the examination part of the day is fully subscribed but we have a couple of wonderful speakers in the morning Andreas Schemel – Breed Specific and Lee Cox – Show Report Writing so if anyone would like to come for a half day which include lunch at a cost of £10.00 per ticket please contact either myself on the info below, Lorraine Gillhespy on LMG @lorphil.freeserve.co.uk or Gill Smith the club secretary.
Thank you for all your news, please keep it coming
